Welcome to the Des Moines Public Schools department of Continuous Improvement!
The mission of the Continuous Improvement department is to provide district employees an established approach to evaluate all processes in order to identify opportunities for improvements leading to increased efficiencies, effectiveness, and greater student outcomes. To improve organizational performance and empower employees, time-tested continuous improvement tools and methodologies, including Lean and Six Sigma, are utilized. Lean focuses on the key processes in departments, the services being delivered, and how much of what is being done is value-added vs. non-value added. The district is building a culture where leadership supports and promotes the empowerment of employees while building their problem-solving ability. Our staff will identify wastes (non-valued added tasks) within processes and set out to improve productivity, quality, and customer service. Des Moines Public Schools is becoming Leaner every day!
What does that all mean for you? We want everybody, every day, everywhere reflecting on how we did yesterday and challenging ourselves to be even better today.

A continuous improvement culture results when leadership supports and promotes the empowerment of employees and building their problem-solving ability. It refers to the combination of defining customer value, aligning around a common purpose, and striving for better while at the same time respecting and developing employees.
