Lean provides a set of tools to understand and solve problems within our systems and processes. More importantly, Lean engages and empowers our staff to improve productivity, quality, morale and customer service. As a result, Lean had a significant positive impact on engagement at DMPS. Lean participants (individuals who have been on a Kaizen team and/or attended Introduction to Continuous Improvement training) engagement is 44% compared to the DMPS overall engagement of 36%.

The day will consist of a series of training modules, interactive exercises/simulations, and discussion/reflection times. At the end of the training, you should be able to start thinking Lean and apply the tools to your work.

About a year ago, DMPS began building a lean culture where leadership supports and promotes the empowerment of employees and building their problem-solving ability while striving for continuous improvement. Only a small number of processes have been reviewed using Lean methodology. Your help is needed to identify the additional areas that need improvement throughout the district.

2016 Progress and Looking Toward 2017
In the calendar year 2016, 66 improvement projects were initiated throughout the district.

- 35 are currently being implemented and monitored
- 1 was abandoned after data revealed non-value in continuing
